The concept of The Kendale Glossary of Textile Terms was born out of the onset of the Single European Market and the requirement by the Textile Trade for an international reference work to speed the passage of technical terms and phrases across the barriers of five languages: English, German, Spanish, French and Italian.

The Glossary has been so arranged that the English language references appear in alphabetical order with four individual indexes allowing other language users to translate with equal facility.
